Kanpur: Rahul Dravid once again showed immense class and patience as he got to his 28th century this morning at The Green Park in Kanpur. Dravid got past Allan Border's record of 11, 174 test runs and became the fourth highest run getter in tests. He lead India to a commandable zone with his superb knock of 144 on the second day of the test, getting the score past 500.
Some intent batting all through the series is something that stands different from the rest. Dravid charged down the pitch to play shots, some great cover drives and ofcourse some solid backfoot punches. There were some great shots, but on one particular delivery of Mendis which was an offcutter, Dravid waited, pressed his foot forward and opened the blade late, to guide the ball towards deep backward point.
There was nothing rusty, it was just pure timing mixed with perfection. At one point of time, it looked impossible to get Dravid out, until this run off play, happened.V.V.S.Laxman hit hard back at Herath and the ball disected his hands and hit the stump forcing Dravid to walk back as he was was short of crease at the non striker's end.
Sachin Tendulkar who didn't hit a boundary till his 87th delivery, lifted Mendis for a six over long off, but when tried to repeat the same couldn't clear midoff and was caught. Credit for Mendis for getting his length right and mixing up the delivery. The duo shared a 94 run patnership.
Muralitharan gained his rhythm back and got the ball flight and turn. There was drift in his delivery and he pitched in the right areas, to trouble the batsman. The pitch is playing it's part and India may invite Sri Lanka to bat, and will look to unplug some wickets at the end of the day.
At the moment India are 572-4 with Laxman on 45* and Yuvraj on 28*.
