SBM Jain College began their campaign in the 5th Rahul Sebastian Memorial Basketball Tournament with an easy win against MS Ramaiah Medical College (MSRMC) on Tuesday. The tournament is being organised by Bharath Sports Union at Malleswaram Grounds.
The defending champions who are fielding their junior team took charge of the game with an all-round performance by Kaif (21 points) and Yashas (13 points). They quelled the spirited challenge from MSRMC 53-39. The winners led 29-14 at half-time. Ajeet B shot 18 points for MSRMC; however, his effort was not sufficient as the team failed to match their opponents.
With the Bangalore University semester exams scheduled to begin from 20th of this month, the tournament has received entries mostly from PU colleges instead of their degree teams. "We wanted to hold the tournament in October but due to certain reasons we postponed it to this month," said an organiser from Bharath Union. "We also wanted to have a women's league but due to financial constrains we decided against it," he added.
In another match, Vidhyarath top scored for Sapthagiri Engineering College to help his team defeat Sheshadripuram College 59-20. He amassed 25 points while Pramod shot 18 points.
Meanwhile, Baldwin Methodist College got a walkover by MVJCE and New Horizon College gave a walkover to RVCE.
