17 injured in wolf attack in Nashik
At least 17 persons were injured when a wolf went berserk in some villages of Yeola taluka in Nashik district on Sunday night. Vengeful villagers beat the animal to death. The wolf, which some people claimed was rabid, strayed from the forests of Yeola into Aherwadi, Kherdiphata, and Pimpalphute villages, biting people who were sleeping outside their houses. -- Vaishali Balajiwale/DNA
China joins supercomputer elite
China has become one of a handful of nations to own one of the top five supercomputers, BBC reported on Monday. Its Tianhe-1 computer, at the National Super Computer Center in Tianjin was ranked fifth on the biannual Top 500 supercomputer list. The machine packs more than 70,000 chips and can compute 563 trillion calculations per second (teraflops), BBC said. It is used for petroleum exploration and engineering tasks such as simulating aircraft designs. The fastest machine is the US-owned Jaguar supercomputer, which now boasts a speed of 1.759 petaflops.
Google adds World Bank data
Google said its public data programme, which makes it easier for users to find relevant statistics, has been updated to make available World Bank figures about countries to its search users. Google allows users to link to its public data charts or embed them in websites.
