This team can become the best: Vengsarkar

Mumbai: Former Indian skipper Dilip Vengsarkar, who was part of the 1983 World Cup winning squad and the 1985 side that won the Champions of Cricket tournament, believes this current team under Mahendra Singh Dhoni is on the way to becoming the finest in the world.

"The strength and the depth in batting of Dhoni's team is unmatched and we have big hitters who can clear any boundary in the world at will. Players like Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh and Dhoni have really blossomed into fine players, while the team can bank on the great starts provided by Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir and Sachin Tendulkar. No target is safe when the Indian team is batting," the former chairman of selectors said.

Talking about the 1985 side, Vengsarkar said that it was a complete side thathad a strong batting order and quality spinners.

"The side under Sourav Gangulywas a very capable side. But Australia was a superior team in that tournament." However, Vengsarkar added that it would be unfair to compare these four teams from different eras as all of them had some great players who performed crucial roles.
