Karachi: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Thursday appointed a three-man committee to probe fast bowler Mohammad Asif's detention in Dubai over drug charges last June.

Wasim Bari, former Pakistan Test wicket-keeper, will head the committee that also includes PCB's medical expert Sohail Saleem and the board's media advisor Asif Sohail.

The 26-year-old Asif was caught at the Dubai airport for carrying a small amount of opium June 1 last year and was later detained there for 19 days before getting deported.

Some Pakistani senators blamed him for tarnishing the nation's image and asked the PCB to impose life ban on the dope-tainted player.

On Wednesday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) asked the PCB to explain what action it plans to take against Asif.
