Rashid Khan in All India Junior Golf championship

Kolkata: Amateur golfer Rashid Khan will start as hot favourite in the Lalit Suri All India Junior Golf Championship which will tee off at Royal Calcutta Golf Club here tomorrow.

Rashid, who has won three back-to-back tournaments on the National Amateur Tour, is coming off the back of an impressive showing at the Volvo Masters of Asia in Thailand, the season ending event on the Asian Tour.

"The three tournament victories on the amateur circuit and rubbing shoulders with some of the best players on the Asian Tour, my confidence level is on a new high. I would like to end the year with a victory and nothing less," said Rashid.

"I am not taking this tournament lightly as there a number of good players who have the ability to win," he added.

Giving Rashid tough competition will be Chikarangappa of Bangalore, who won all the major tournaments on the junior circuit and also holds the distinction of being the youngest player to have represented India in the Nomura Cup.

This event will be followed by the Lalit Suri Eastern India Golf Championship to be held at the Tollygunge Club, the following week.

The two tournaments will have players like Honey Basoya and Piyush Sangwan, among others.
