Moin wins LG-Goodricke Eastern India Amateur

Kolkata: Moin Malak sunk a birdie putt on the final hole to pip Arshdeep Tiwana at the post to win the LG-Goodricke Eastern India Amateur at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club here today.

In an enthralling final, which went to tie-breaker, Moin hit a thrilling last hole birdie to register his first victory on the LG Amateur Tour.

Moin started positively with a brilliant recovery on the first hole, that saw him hit his third shot, from in between trees and without the flag stick in sight, to two feet from the pin.

On the next hole, he went one up with a birdie before five consecutive bogeys from nine to fourteen set him back.

After the completion of the first 18 holes, Arshdeep maintained his advantage, but Moin came back strongly after the break to close out the deficit and leave the tie delicately poised.

Arshdeep, who enjoyed a fabulous run throughout the tournament, came back to win two holes and maintained his stranglehold going into the last nine holes. But Moin made it all square with a forty-foot putt on the 31st hole.

From there on, it was a battle of nerves and it all came down to the final hole after a marathon match.

Moin, who had a tough bunker shot, took out his wand and chipped the ball into the hole from the bunker wall to put it past Arshdeep who had a simple putt for par.

"This feels out of the world. It was a roller-coaster ride and could have gone either way," Moin said after the win.

Meanwhile, a disappointed Arshdeep took positives out of the defeat, sying, "I was sitting pretty and I knew I would make the putt but what Moin did was just incredible. It is all a learning experience."

It is very nice coverage. It can be better if photos of Finalists are also published which will add on to the flare.
