Mumbai: In a big show of unity after last month's terror attacks, over 35,000 participants, including around 300 from other countries, will participate in the sixth Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon on January 18.
The start of the race and it's terminating points will be the Trident Hotel and Chattrapati Shivaji Terminus, both of which were targeted by the terrorists, last month.
"The choice of the hotel was not by chance but by desire," Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal today said at a press conference here to announce the race.
"Through the Marathon, Mumbai city would be sending a clear message to the rest of the world that nothing will desist us from our paths," he said.
"We can't allow our spirit to be put down by the terrorists. This is our response to the heinous attacks," he added.
Executive Vice-President of Oberoi-Trident, Devendra Bharma said he welcomed Bhujbal s remarks that the spirit of Mumbai will not be put down.
"Mumbai s spirit must go on as Mr Bhujbal said."
Bollywood actor and the event s brand ambassador John Abraham said, "26/11 redefined to me the meaning of Marathon. We saw Marathon courage and Marathon unity (from the citizens).
