SCR thrash Indian Bank 5-0 in Shastri hockey


Gurgaon: Ashish Minz and Prabhakar Singh scored a brace each as South Central Railways registered a thumping 5-0 victory over Indian Bank on the opening day of the 19th Lal Bahadur Shastri hockey tournament here today.

Minz found the target in the eighth and 67th minutes while Prabhakar scored in the 15th and 25th minutes of the one-sided match.

The other goal was scored by Mohammad Aleem in the 52nd minute.

With the win, SCR joined seven other teams - BPCL, IOC, CRPF, PNB, Namdhari XI, Air India and ONGC - for the main league.

The eight teams will be divided into two pools for league matches. The top two from both pools will advance to the semifinals to be played on December 2 with the final on the next day.

Later in the day in the first match of the league phase, Punjab National Bank drubbed Central Reserve Police Force 5-1.

PNB captain Ajitesh Roy scored twice (8th and 55th minutes) while Jalvinder, Kulwant Singh and Banwali contributed one goal each.

For CRPF, the lone goal was scored by Rajesh Kindo in the 31st minute of the match.
