Assam shock Vidarbha by 71 runs in Ranji match
Tuesday, December 02, 2008 22:53 [IST]

Nagpur: Assam pulled off a stunning 71-run win over Vidarbha in their Ranji Trophy Plate Division group B match to collect five points here today.

The hosts, requiring 169 to win in possible 54 overs on the final day, were bundled out for a paltry 97 runs in their second innings at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Ground.

Vidarbha openers made a confident start as they began the chase at a brisk pace but once Madhusudhan Acharya got out Assam bowlers did not let the hosts ship settle.

Fiaz Fazal (32) who was the top scorer for the hosts fell to a reckless drive off medium pacer K Das.

Gaurav Upadhaya (16) and Shalabh Srivastav (12) resisted briefly but both fell to some inexplicable shots.

Spinners A Kanwar (3/18), A Katti (2/10), S Purukaustha (2/1) along with Das (2/25) demolished the Vidarbha innings.

Das finished with a match haul of seven wickets.
