Sehwag 10th in Test rankings, Harbhajan 7th
Tuesday, December 02, 2008 17:31 [IST]
sehwag_01Dubai: At 10th, Virender Sehwag remains India's highest ranked batsman while Harbhajan Singh too hung on to his seventh place in the bowlers chart in the latest ICC Test rankings issued today.

Sehwag is the lone Indian in the top 10 list of batsmen which had Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Kumar Sangakkara and banned Pakistani batsman Mohammad Yousuf in the top three places.

Among the Indians, VVS Laxman lost one place and is ranked 14th while Sachin Tendulkar also slid a rung to be 17th, followed by left-hander Gautam Gambhir.

In the bowlers chart, led by Muttiah Muralitharan with Dale Steyn and Stuart Clark filling the next two slots, Harbhajan has Zaheer Khan (20th) giving him company in the top 20 list.

Outside India, Australia pacer Mitchell Johnson has continued his rapid rise by breaking into the top 10 for the first time in his career following another good performance against New Zealand at Adelaide.

The 27-year-old left-armer's five for 85 against the Black Caps saw him gaining four places in the rankings. He now sits in eighth place, level with Shoaib Akhtar of Pakistan and Sri Lanka's Chaminda Vaas.

Johnson's teammate Brett Lee, who took nine wickets in Adelaide, moved back into the top five, from where he had fallen during Australia's recent 0-2 series defeat in India.

With Stuart Clark retaining his third place, Australia now has two fast bowlers in the top five again, and three in the top 10.
