Chennai: India's only ATP International Series Tennis event, the Chennai Open is scheduled to kick off on January 5, next year at the SDAT Tennis Stadium in Nungambakam. The event will see a line-up of stars, both Indian and international, vying for the first ATP title of the new season.
The $450,000 Chennai Open 2009 will feature World No.5 Nikolay Davydenko, No.13 Stanislas Wawrinka, No.23 Marin Cilic and No.26 Ivo Karlovic. Also gracing the event will be crowd favourite and former champion Carlos Moya.
The event will also see the return of Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes who will be playing with their respective partners Mark Knowles and Lukas Dlouhy in men's doubles. The biggest challenge for them will be the current World No.1 Bryan brothers, who are making their debut at the Chennai Open. India's top two ranked players Somdev Dev Varman and Prakash Amritraj have been given wild-cards for the singles draw.
