Sachin Tendulkar's security personnel fired his pistol accidentally and hurt his hand on Saturday morning in the compound of the cricketer's residential building La Mer, Bandra. While others ran away assuming that terrorists had struck once again, it was Tendulkar who rushed the guard to the hospital.
Chandrasen Chigvan, 39, a constable from the special protection unit of the Mumbai police, came for the morning shift on Saturday at around 8 am. "He was taking charge from the night security personnel who handed over the 9mm pistol to Chigvan when he accidentally misfired," said senior police inspector Prakash George, Bandra police station. The bullet hit Chigvans left palm.
A newspaper vendor Kailash Parab who was on his job nearby said, "We heard the sound and thought there was some problem. So we just ran away from the building."
There were a few other passers-by who also panicked, he added. The other security personnel immediately informed Tendulkar about the incident and he rushed to the buildings compound with his wife Anjali. Tendulkar took the guard to the Lilavati Hospital where he is currently admitted and his condition is stable.
