Sachin may be back
Thursday, November 20, 2008 08:11 [IST]

Mumbai: Sachin Tendulkar is likely to return to the ODI squad. The Master Blaster, who has been rested for the first three matches of the current series against England, is expected to be recalled by Krishnamachari & Co when the selectors meet at Kanpur after the third ODI at the Green Park Stadium.

The most likely candidate to make way for the champion batsman is Murali Vijay. Vijay, sources say, was not the first choice of the selectors anyway. The Tamil Nadu batsman was taken only because Tendulkar wanted to be rested for the series.

The selectors will also mull over Cheteswar Pujara. The Saurashtra batsman has been a prolific scorer in the current Ranji season. But the selectors, it is learnt, are not in favour of changing the winning combination too much till Mahendra Singh Dhoni amp; Co clinch the series. The team will be selected for only next two matches. They will meet again in Cuttack after the fifth ODI to pick the squad for last two ODIs - in Guwahati and New Delhi.
