Miller scores twice on return to Celtic
Sunday, August 31, 2008 20:17 [IST]

GLASGOW, Scotland: Rangers striker Kenny Miller scored twice in a 4-2 victory at former club Celtic in Sunday's Old Firm derby, with both teams reduced to 10 men.

Miller scored his first goals since an offseason move from Derby made him the first player to rejoin Rangers after a spell at its Glasgow rival. Daniel Cousin and Pedro Mendes added the other goals to send Rangers to the top of the Scottish Premier League on goal difference from Kilmarnock.

Celtic, which had goals from Georgios Samaras and Shunsuke Nakamura, is three points adrift in fourth after four rounds.

Cousin put Rangers ahead in the 37th when he cut inside Celtic defender Mark Wilson and beat goalkeeper Artur Boruc at the near post, but Samaras leveled from close range inside two minutes.

Scotland striker Miller scored in the 52nd, volleying into the far corner from Kevin Thomson's deep cross, and Mendes forged a 3-1 lead ten minutes later.

With around 15 minutes left, Cousin was booked for a second time and Celtic substitute Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink was shown a red card for kicking Kirk Broadfoot.

Miller put the result beyond doubt in the 79th after Boruc spilled Broadfoot's cross, although Nakamura converted an injury time free kick for a consolation goal.
