Jeev finishes 9th, misses out on British Open
Monday, July 14, 2008 16:51 [IST]

jeev_milkha_singhLoch Lomond (Scotland): Jeev Milkha Singh had another frustrating day on Sunday on the greens as he faltered on the back nine dropping two bogeys to end tied ninth at the Barclay's Scottish Open.

That also meant he missed out on one of the last available berths into next week's British Open. Jeev starting the day in tied third and at eight-under 205, finished the final round in one-over 72 and at seven-under, he stayed inside top-10 but very disappointed at being left out of the British Open.

Graeme McDowell, playing some of his best golf this season, carded a three-under 68 and won the title by three shots as he finished at 13-under 271. James Kingston of South Africa played a great round of five-under 66 but still ended second, while veteran Miguel Angel Jimenez of Spain was third with Richard Green as both shot 69 each.

Overnight leader Simon Khan, who was looking for the big win, dropped two double bogeys on the back nine and finished with a 72 and ended at fifth in nine-under 275. But the consolation for him was the berth into the British Open as leading non-exempt finisher in top-5 at the event.

Jeev, who opened with a bogey, birdied sixth and seventh, at which point he rose to third, but Khan was at that time in lead and the Indian needed to go ahead of him to earn the British Open berth. Jeev was unable to find any more birdies as he missed putts and also bogeyed 12th and 13th to drop to seven-under.

Jeev was once again let down by his putter needing 33 putts despite reaching 15 of the 18 regulation, though his driving was more error prone on the final day. He will now take a week off during the British Open.
