Saina cracks top-20 of world ranking
Thursday, July 03, 2008 21:23 [IST]

New Delhi: India's top women's shuttler Saina Nehwal received a major boost ahead of the Beijing Olympics in August as she cracked the top-20 singles ranking for the first time in her career.

Saina, who will participate in her first Olympics this August, jumped three places to 18 in the latest rankings released by the International Badminton Federation Thursday.

Saina was in top form in the Asian circuit last month and notched up some big upset victories.

She became the first Indian women to reach the semifinal of a Super Series event at the Singapore Open. Saina then carried on her impressive form at the Thailand Open and reached the quarterfinal before being subdued by Chinese top-seed Xie Xingfang.

In men's single's rankings, Anup Sridhar is placed 31 while Chetan Anand and Arvind Bhat is 42nd and 43rd respectively.
