Sania, Mattek to clash with William sisters

London: India's Sania Mirza and American Bethanie Mattek ran into Williams sisters in the Wimbledon quarterfinal after their third round opponents Akgul Amanmuradova of Uzbekistan and Darya Kustova of Belarus retired hurt in the decider.Sania and Mattek, seeded 13th, fought back after losing the first set and were leading 4-6, 6-4, 2-0 when Kustova and Amanmuradova retired hurt Monday night.

The Indo-American pair will now clash with 11th seeded Williams sisters for a place in the last four.

Serena and Venus defeated fifth-seeded Spanish pair of Anabel Medina Garrigues and Virginia Ruano Pascual 6-1, 6-4 in the third round.

India's Leander Paes and Czech Republic's Lukas Dlouhy, seeded ninth, will play third seed Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram of Israel in the quarterfinal.

Paes and Dlouhy defeated Travis Parrott of US and Filip Polasek of
Slovakia, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (6), 6-4 in the third round match Monday night.

Erlich and Ram came out winners after a tough match against Julien Benneteau and Nicolas Mahut of France 4-6, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (5), 6-3, 6-4.

In the girl's event, Poojashree Venakatesh made a first round exit losing to sixth seeded Australian Jessica Moore 6-4,3-6,1-6.
