Security beefed up for IPL final
Sunday, June 01, 2008 12:21 [IST]

Mumbai: As cops defused a bomb planted in an auditorium in Navi Mumbai's Vashi area, BCCI's chief administrative officer Ratnakar Shetty on Saturday expressed full confidence in Maharashtra Police to see that Sunday's IPL final goes ahead without any hindrance.

"We have full faith in the police force of Maharashtra and we are confident that they (police) will take all necessary safety measures for Sunday's finals," he said. "In the IPL, 58 matches have been held so far and tomorrow's is the 59th and last match. We hope it will be an enjoyable affair," he added.

Meanwhile, Navi Mumbai police commissioner Ramrao Wagh told reporters, "A low intensity bomb was defused in the Vishnudas Bhave Theatre during the interval of a play." The theatre was evacuated at around 9 pm and a bomb detection squad defused the bomb.
