Pune: Gujarat girl Manju Bala set a new under-20 national record in the hammer throw event on the second day of the National Federation Cup Junior and Youth Athletics Championship here today.

Manju sent the hammer soaring to a distance of 52.26m to better Archana Brar's earlier mark of 49.55 m set in July 2001.

Gunjan Singh (43.85m) of Uttar Pradesh and Poornima Nivangune (33.30m) of Maharashtra were second and third respectively.

Delhi's Kanika Kumari pushed her limit in the girls under-18 category hammer throw final to set a new meet record of 48.08m. Harayana's Reena Kumari (44.45m) and Gujarat's Suman Kumari (35.40m) finished second and third respectively.

Yesterday, shot putter Manpreet Kaur of Punjab smashed another girls under-20 national record with a massive hurl of 15.44 m.

Manpreet had erased Seema Antil's six-year-old record of 14.89m.
