Top seed Lu wins SAIL Open
Saturday, May 17, 2008 22:20 [IST]

New Delhi: Top seed Lu Yen-hsun of Chinese Taipei clinched the $50,000 SAIL Open ATP challenger title, defeating American Brendan Evans 5-7,7-6 (5),6-3 at the DLTA complex here Saturday.

Evans dominated the first set and with his aggressive serve and volley tactics unsettled Lu whose strength lies in his game from the baseline. The Taiwanese player had trouble with his forehand and had no answer to the seventh-seeded American's volleys and superb net play who broke him in the sixth game and then in the 12th to take a set lead.

A frustrated Lu changed his tactics in the second set, concentrating more on his serve and playing a more attacking game to force a tie-break. To make his task easy, Evans played his shots with less planning and committed errors and Lu had little difficulty in making it set-all.

In the decider, Lu was in full flow , playing his characteristic game from the baseline and served impeccably before wrapping up the match in the ninth game when Evans hit a return too long.

With the win Lu has pocketed $7,200 and 55 ATP points while Evans won $4,240 and 38 ATP points.
