Clarke to miss first Test against Windies
Friday, May 16, 2008 16:42 [IST]
michael_clarkebingle_01Sydney: Michael Clarke will miss Australia's first cricket test against the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica after remaining in Sydney due to the death of his fiancee's father.

Clarke attended the funeral of Graham Bingle, father of model Laura Bingle, today, and said he would not arrive at Sabina Park until May 23, the second day of the first test.

"It has been a tough week for Lara and her family, I am glad I have been here," Clarke said. "I have decided to remain in Sydney for a couple more days to be with the family. I will miss the first test, I look forward to catching up with the team and being ready to go for the second test in Antigua."

Australia is scheduled to play three tests against the West Indies, Clarke's first series as vice captain of the test team since he replaced the retired Adam Gilchrist.

Simon Katich is expected to take Clarke's place in the starting lineup for the first test, with Brad Hodge in the West Indies on standby.
