Clark brings McGrath's bowling under scanner
Thursday, May 15, 2008 14:22 [IST]
stuart_clarkMelbourne: Australian fast bowler Stuart Clark has studied the footage of his predecessor Glen McGrath's bowling to know the secret behind the retired pacer's success in the West Indies.

Clark, currently touring the Caribbean with the Australian team, could not speak to McGrath but watched footage of the veteran bowler's action in the West Indies before leaving for the three-Test series.

"He obviously found the key over here. I haven't talked to (McGrath). He was in India (for the Indian Premier League). But from the footage and the vision we have looked at, he was successful by keeping it pretty simple and being consistent and patient on these wickets," Clark was quoted as saying by the Australian Associated Press.

McGrath played 10 Tests in the Caribbean, capturing a total of 50 wickets at an impressive average of 20.70.

Talking about the current lot of West Indian batsmen, Clark said, "I think they'll be tough opposition, especially at home."

"They've got some really good players. Chanderpaul went seven Test innings in a row recently scoring 50 in every innings, and they've got some dynamic players in Gayle and (all-rounder Dwayne) Bravo."

"For me, the plan will be to tie them down."
