Dravid hopeful of a comeback
Friday, May 09, 2008 11:34 [IST]
rahuldravid_02Kolkata: A downcast Bangalore Royal Challengers skipper Rahul Dravid admitted that his side's sixth loss in eight games of the Indian Premier League had made things difficult, but hoped that the tide would turn in the team's favour soon.

"This defeat has made things difficult for us. But still we ought to remain positive and try to turn the tide in our favour," he said after losing their match against Kolkata Knight Riders here yesterday.

The Royal Challengers now bring up the rear of the table with four points, and the latest reverse could further upset team owner Vjay Mallya, who cracked the whip to sack the side's Chief Executive Officer Charu Sharma two days back.

There was also speculation that Dravid had wanted to resign after his side's string of failures, but official confirmation was lacking.

Dravid, however, rued his team's failure to finish off close games.

"We have lost quite a few games close games. We seem to be getting good performances, but the execution is not happening. We are looking for power upfront."

Referring to the game opposite the Knight Riders, he said "We had a fair chance to win, since the wicket was quite good, and the outfield quite fast".

The seasoned cricketer said the Knight Riders superb fielding made the difference between the two sides.

He also praised Sourav Ganguly's bowling in the middle overs.

"His bowling was highly effective as he bowled close to wicket."
