Laxman hopeful of Chargers' comeback in IPL
Tuesday, May 06, 2008 14:53 [IST]

vvs1Chennai: Deccan Chargers skipper V.V.S Laxman has asserted that his team was not as bad as the results so far suggested and hoped it would make a comeback in the Indian Premier League (IPL) soon.

Speaking to the media here on Monday a day before his team's game against Chennai Super Kings, he was at pains to drive home the point that the Chargers were more determined than their rivals to win the game.

"We lost a few very close matches after being in winning situations," Laxman said.

Deccan Chargers are currently at the bottom of the IPL points tally with just two points from one win in six outings.

"Super Kings have lost two games, no doubt, but we have lost five. So, that makes us even more determined than them to win tomorrow," Laxman said while defending his mates whom he pointed out were all professionals and aware of their responsibilities.

"It's a great experience to lead players from different countries. They are all professionals and I do not need to tell them individually because they know their responsibilities," he said when asked about his experience as the captain of Chargers.

On the loss of all-rounder Andrew Symonds who left for Australia to join his national team, Laxman said his absence was not felt as much as it was made out to be.

"There are other big-hitters in the team like Adam Gilchrist and Scott Styris, besides Shahid Afridi. So, in that respect, I am quite happy with the combination that we have," he said.

About his own role as an opener, Laxman said the batting order was quite flexible.

"I am doing well opening the innings, but if the situation requires, then we will certainly change the order. Perhaps, even Afridi will open the innings if necessary. It all depends on the situation on a given day," he said.

Asked about the playing eleven, Laxman said they would decide on the composition only after taking a closer look at the pitch on Tuesday.
