Delhi will be under pressure, says Nayar
Saturday, May 03, 2008 17:04 [IST]
Mumbai: Young Mumbai Indians all-rounder Abhishek Nayar feels that the high-flying Delhi Daredevils would be under pressure when they take on the home team in the Indian Premier League at the D Y Patil Stadium tomorrow.

"Delhi would be under pressure as we are the underdogs. They are one of the better teams, but we have come off a win in our last match," said the Mumbai Ranji trophy player who is a handy lower order batsman and useful medium-pacer.

He was referring to Mumbai Indians first victory after four straight losses against Kolkata Knight Riders at the latter's backyard in Eden Gardens on April 29.

Nayar is one of the few domestic batsmen in the Twenty20 tournament who have caught the eye of the public with his performance, having taken his team to the doorsteps of an unlikely victory over top-notchers Chennai Super Kings away from home.

"I trust my instincts and get my eyes in first by playing a couple of deliveries carefully before playing my natural game," the left-handed attacking batsman said after the team's practice session at the MCA's Bandra-Kurla complex.

Nayar said the IPL has been a good learning curve for him and other younsters in the team as it has given them a chance to rub shoulders with international stars like Sanath Jayasuriya and Shaun Pollock, not to speak of captain Sachin Tendulkar.

"We are gelling well as a team. It's a big learning experience for me and others," he added.
