Jeev stays fourth despite late bogeys in Japan
Saturday, May 03, 2008 14:59 [IST]

jeevsinghTogo (Japan): A day after putting brilliantly in the second round, Jeev Milkha Singh was once again in trouble and dropped two crucial bogeys on the back stretch but still managed to stay in contention in tied fourth at the end of the penultimate round of the 120 million Yen Chunichi Crowns at Nagoya Golf Club, Wago Course.

Jeev, who last win was in Japan 16 months, shot an even par 70 with three birdies and three bogeys at the 6,514 yards, par 70 course in Aichi Prefecture. He needed 30 putts including a three-putt on 17th as compared to just 22 putts on the second day.

Jeev's third round was in sharp contrast to his second round effort. He had problems reaching the greens in regulation in second round but putted like a dream, but in third round he reached 67 percent greens in regulation but missed numerous birdie putts.

Asian Tour No.1 in 2006, Jeev, playing his first event in Japan this year, began the day in fourth place and was now three shots behind sole leader Japan's Ryoken Kawagishi (68), who ended his third round with a bogey on 18th.

Jeev was sole second with birdies on second, 11th and 13th and a single bogey on third. But with five more holes to go, he dropped shots on the 14th and 17th and slipped to fourth at five-under 205.

Behind leader Kawaghishi, was Tomohiro Kondo (68) at eight-under 202 and in third place was Hiroyuki Fujita (64) at six-under 204.

Four players including Jeev, Shingo Katayama (69), China's Liang Wen-chong (70) and Toru Suzuki (67) were at fourth place at five-under 205 each.
