All India volley tourney in Nagpur

Mumbai: The cream of the country's spikers will be seen in action in the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Gold Cup prize money volleyball tournament to be held at Nagpur from May 7-11.

Punjab Police, Indian Overseas Bank (Chennai), Karnataka Police, Bharat Petroleum, Kerala Electricity Board, Southern Railway, SAI (Talasery), South Central Railway, Uttar Pradesh, Central Railway, Western Railway and Maharshtra Police have entered the event for men and women.

"Twelve men's and eight women's teams will take part in the tournament which will be held under floodlights from 6 pm to 11 pm. The men's and women's winners and runners-up would receive Rs one lakh and Rs 75,000 respectively," Tournament Director Bhimashankar Rajamane told reporters here.

Maharashtra Sports Minister Vasant Purke, himself an ex-spiker, would inaugurate the tournament while Bihar Governor R S Gavai would be the chief guest for the closing ceremony, Rajamane said.
