We want to win before home crowd: Laxman
Thursday, May 01, 2008 10:05 [IST]

vvs1Hyderabad: Deccan Chargers captain VVS Laxman said his team would concentrate on their strengths rather than worrying over their rivals' to win the IPL match against Kings XI Punjab on Thursday.

"We are keen to win the match in front of home crowd and are not worried about our rivals," he told reporters.

The city side has lost both the matches it has played here so far and had so far registered only one victory in four encounters of the Twenty20 league.

Replying to a query on the absence of Andrew Symonds, Laxman said the Australian all-rounder will be missed but said the team has players who are potential match-winners.

Symonds made a brilliant 117 and helped the team reach 240 in the match played here against Rajasthan Royals on April 24. The all-rounder has left for home to join his team for a training camp ahead of a tour of West Indies.

To a query on sledging, Laxman said controlled aggression is all right without overdoing it.

Kings XI Punjab coach Tom Moody said S Sreesanth, who was involved in an unsavoury incident with Harbhajan Singh, is down with flu and his fitness for the match would be decided on Thursday.

Replying to a question on the Sreesanth-Harbhajan Singh slapping episode, Moody said the team would like to put the past behind and concentrate on the matches ahead.

The Punjab team captain Yuvraj Singh said there would be no pressure on him as team leader and the squad was looking forward to play good cricket.
