Knight riders confident of good show
Thursday, April 17, 2008 10:19 [IST]

kolkata_ipl_logoKolkata: Kolkata Knight Riders coach John Buchanan today exuded confidence that his side, which has a "good blend of experience and youth" would perform well under the cool headed skipper in Sourav Ganguly.

"We have a good side with a good mix of youth and experience. Sourav is a very cool-headed captain. He is very experienced. We expect him to lead from the front," Buchanan told news-persons here today.

On the absence of Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar, the Aussie coach said, "The team will rise to the occasion to fill his absence".

Buchanan was also happy with the local boys Ashok Dinda and Laxmi Ratan Shukla, saying "Ashok is a good bowler, and Laxmi, a good all-rounder. After seeing them at the nets, I am pleased".

Kiwi wicketkeeper-batsman Brendon Mccullum said he was ready to bat at any position according to the team's requirements.

"I'm ready to bat at any number. If I'm asked to open the innings, I won't hesitate. At the same time, if I'm asked to come in the middle, that too is fine with me".

Terming Ganguly as a great captain, the 27-year old hard- hitter said, "It is nice to play under him".

Mccullum felt the combination of Ganguly, Buchanan and Ricky Ponting would do a world of good to the team.

"Ganguly has steel. We have the experience of Ricky. John is very professional in his approach. Together they form a great combination which can spell magic," he said.

Mccullum said his side would miss fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar but still they have a strong side.

"The addition of Shoaib Akhtar would have added to the team's strength. His pace would have been a factor. But still we have a very good squad with so many seasoned hands around," he added.
