Kashyap lone Indian hope in Asian badminton

New Delhi: Indian shuttlers came a cropper on the very first day of the Badminton Asian Championship as all of them except P Kashyap bowed out in their first-round matches in Johore Bahru, Malaysia.

P Kashyap pulled off a thrilling win over Chinese Yi Lu 11-21, 21-17, 21-10. India's strongest hope Anup Sridhar lost out to Korean seventh seed Sung Hwan Park 9-21, 13-21. Chetan Anand caved in to the challenge of Japanese Hiroyuki Endo losing 19-21, 24-26 while Anand Pawar surrendered meekly to tenth seed Indonesian Simon Santoso 16-21, 9-21.

In women's Sania Nehwal lost to Julia Pei Xian Wong of Malaysia 15-21, 21-16, 17-21. In another women's singles match, Aditi Mutatkar lost to Mingtian Fu 13-21, 21-19, 21-23.

In mixed doubles Event India 's V Diju and Jwala Gutta qualified for main draw winning against seventh seed Koreans Sang Hoon Han amd Yu Mi Hwang by 21-17, 23-21.
