Jet-set Nadal helps Team Ana make it to Miami
Monday, March 31, 2008 12:29 [IST]

Miami: Kind-hearted Spaniard Rafael Nadal hooked up Indian Wells winner Ana Ivanovic with three spare seats on a private jet so that the women's champion could get from the California to the Miami Masters tournaments on time.

Writing in his Miami magazine blog, Nadal revealed the good deed, which echoed the lift the Spaniard got from Roger Federer on another jet last summer from Montreal to Cincinnati, Ohio.

Ivanovic, her mother and physical trainer gladly accepted the courtesy from Nadal after Miami organisers lined up the plane to get the Spaniard to Florida in time for a pre-tournament photo shoot with Serena Williams.

"I knew (Ana) had some problems to find a ticket to Miami, she was on a waiting list, and we had room left, so I thought I could ask them to join us," Nadal wrote in his blog.

"The tournament organisers also thought it was OK, and they actually supported the idea so everyone happy. I know how it feels to be stuck in a place when you want/have to leave to play the next tournament."

Nadal said that he got to know 'Team Ivanovic' for the first time, finding his fellow world number two "a very nice person."

Nadal also performed another good deed for Argentine friend David Nalbandian, appearing at a local polo club in Palm Beach, north of Miami.

"We had prepared a surprise, and we played one set in front of polo players, patrons, team owners, members and general public. But the cause was good, and I am very happy we did it."
