Sunday, March 30, 2008 22:03 [IST]

New Delhi: Athletics Federation of India today released names of more than 170 athletes for national coaching camps for the preparation of Commonwealth Games in Delhi and Asian Games in 2010.

The camps will be held at the National Institute of Sports (NIS) in Patiala and Sports Authority of India centres in Bangalore and Kolkata throughout the year. "This is basically a continuous training with breaks in between for international and domestic competitions. Many important international events are coming in the next two years including Beijing Olympics, Commonwealth Games, the Asian games and Commonwealth Youth Games," an AFI official told PTI today.

The AFI also selected around 170 boys and girls for training camps in three venues from April 1 to May 19 for the preparation of Commonwealth Youth Games to be held in Pune in October.

Fiftysix boys will train in JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur, 62 girls will camp in LNCP Thiruvananthpuram and a combined 55 boys and girls will train in NIS Patiala.
