Mangela to be offered IPL contract for '09
Sunday, March 30, 2008 17:08 [IST]

Jaipur: Srideep Mangela, a left-handed opening batsman from Mumbai, would be offered a contract to play for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League in 2009 after he was declared the winner of a talent hunt conducted by former India coach Greg Chappell.

The Aussie legend declared Mangela as the winner after a 10-day camp which concluded here. Mangela has spent a year at Bangalore's National Cricket Academy and has represented Mumbai at Under-17 and Under-19 levels apart from playing in the Under-19 zonal team.

Chappell said Mangela was chosen on the basis of his cricketing talent, potential, fitness and willingness to learn. Chappell and his assistant, biomechanist Ian Frazer, toured around the country and selected 28 youngsters for the camp. The former Australian captain said the other players were also talented and have been given tips to improve their game.
