'I may break Lara's record if I bat till lunch'
Friday, March 28, 2008 22:26 [IST]
sehwag_01Chennai: Not fully content even after notching up his second triple ton, India's swashbuckling opener Virender Sehwag believes he can eclipse Brian Lara's world record score of 400 if he can bat till lunch tomorrow.

Day three of India's first Test against South Africa belonged to the hard-hitting opener, who recorded the fastest triple century in the history of the game and remained unbeaten on 309, equalling his personal best which also happens to be the highest individual Test score by an Indian.

Though he insisted that he was not thinking about the world record right now, Sehwag feels he stands good chance of overtaking Lara, who made 400 not out against England in 2004, provided he bats till lunch tomorrow.

"Right now I am thinking of good rest. I am not looking to get at Lara's record," Sehwag said before adding "(Anil) Kumble told me to bat throughout the day today and if I bat till lunch tomorrow, I may break Lara's record," said the belligerent batsman.

Though many records were shattered in course of his innings, Sehwag insisted he was not bothered about landmarks and he only played his natural game.

"I played session by session. I was not thinking about 200 or 300. When I was getting close like 20 runs to the milestones, I went for my shots," he said.
