shikha_uberoiBangalore: India's Shikha Uberoi has been awarded a wild card entry for the $600,000 Bangalore Open 2008 tennis championship starting on March 3.
Ranked 824 in the world, Shikha, an Indo-American tennis player, plays for India though an American citizen. She has reached her career high singles ranking of 122nd in August, 2005.

The Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association (KSLTA), the organisers of Bangalore Open, today announced that Uberoi had been given the first of the three wild cards on offer.

Teaming up with sister Neha Uberoi, she reached the finals of the WTA Tour Sunfeast Open at Kolkata in September 2005 where the sisters lost to Anastasia Myskina and Elena Likhovtseva.

"I Am very much thrilled and excited about playing at the Bangalore. It is great to be part of India's first Tier II tennis extravaganza at Bangalore. It surely means a lot to me. I look forward to playing some tough tennis at the tournament", Shikha said in a statement.
