Indian Railway wins national archery

Jamshedpur: With a rich haul of six gold, four silver and four bronze medals Indian Railway emerged the overall champion in the 28th senior National Archery championship at J R D Tata sports complex here today.

Indian Railways earned total 50 points against 42 points by runners-up Services which had bagged four golds, six silvers and two bronzes. Last year's champion Steel Plant Sports Board (SPSB) (four gold, five silver and three bronze medals) finished third while the runners-up Jharkhand (three gold, six silver and four bronze medals) had to satisfy with the fourth place.

Arunachal Pradesh archers comprising L Ranjana Devi, P Theurani Sabi Devi, Sh. Romita Devi and Landu Lu Kamei secured 198 points to claim the women's Indian round team championship while Madhya Pradesh archers Sandeep Daklan, Anil Kumar, Ambone Manoj and Suraj Singh earned 213 points to emerge victorious in the men's section.

Sports Authority of India (SAI) team finished runners-up followed by Assam in the women's Indian round team championshi whereas Manipur and Assam clinched second and third place in the men's section. SPSB retained the men's recurve team championship pushing services to the second place follwed by Uttar Pradesh whereas Railways archers comprising of world champion Dola Banerjee, internationals Reena Kumari, Bombaila Devi and Sumangla displayed impressive performance to emerge champion in the women's section. SPSB and Jharkhand had to content on second and third place in the team championship.
