Indian media face embarrassment in Melbourne
Thursday, January 31, 2008 18:15 [IST]

Melbourne: Indian mediapersons faced an embarrassing situation here today when security personnel prevented them from attending the press conference of captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni on the eve of the Twenty20 international against Australia.

Media was put on hold at the gate of the indoor nets, the venue of the press conference, as the security officers deliberated among themselves whether to let the large visiting contingent in. Dhoni and Media Manager MV Sridhar reached for the press conference on time and not finding the mediapersons there, the latter tried to convince the security men.

"It would not make much sense for us to be here without them (Indian media)," he said. Still it didn't cut the ice. Finally, an intervention from the Melbourne Cricket Ground officials made the security guys relent, albeit reluctantly. Sridhar, who has been handling issues adroitly in India's ongoing turbulent tour Down Under, has impressed one and all throughout the testing tour and has been rewarded with the extension of his duty for the tri-series as well.
