Thursday, January 31, 2008 11:31 [IST]

Dhaka: The image of an athlete and flags of Bangladesh and India in the backdrop form the new logo of the second Indo-Bangladesh Games scheduled to take place here Feb 22-26.

Sportspersons from India's West Bengal state will compete with their eastern neighbours in the event. Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) acting secretary general Kutubuddin Ahmed unveiled the logo on Wednesday with the slogan Sports for Friendship.

After West Bengal's domination in the inaugural version in 2006,Ahmed expressed the hope that the hosts would do better at home in the nine-discipline competition, The Daily Star reported Thursday.

The nine disciplines are athletics, swimming, shooting, basketball, volleyball, kabaddi, kho kho, football and cricket. "If the boys do better it will give them an edge in the next South Asian Games," Ahmed said.

Ashrafuddin Ahmed Chunnu was named Chef de Mission of the Bangladesh contingent and Anisur Rahman Dipu the general team manager.

The Bangladesh team have trained for three months and the hosts have received $20,000 from the Olympic Council of Asia for the event. The West Bengal contingent is due to arrive here Feb 20.
