World champion Dola eyes on Olympic medal
Thursday, November 29, 2007 16:26 [IST]

New Delhi: Basking in the glory of being the world champion, ace archer Dola Banerjee said a medal at the Olympics next year will be the icing on the cake.

After winning the top honour at the recently held World Cup finals in Dubai, Dola said an Olympic medal now looked gettable at the Beijing Games.

"It will be great to win an Olympic medal as it is always special. The competition level is the same in the Olympics because the same people will participate there," the Arjuna awardee told reporters here today.

Asked if she would target the gold medal at the mega event next year, Dola said she would savour any podium finish.

"We should remember that we have not yet won an archery medal in the Olympics. So any medal will be welcome," she said. However, it would need more than just skills to achieve that, said Dola, insisting that luck too plays a crucial role in the knock-out stage of the competition.

"In such events, it all depends on what kind of draw you get from quarterfinals onwards. Sometimes you shoot 120 and lose and at other times you win even after scoring 105. At that stage, you absolutely get no second chance to recover," she said.
