New Delhi: Arjuna awardee Dola Banerjee will vie for top honours as the annual archery World Cup enters the final stage later this week.
After four legs of the competition in Korea, Turkey, Italy and the UK, the final of the World Cup this year will be held in Dubai on November 24. Having managed to book a berth among the top four, Dola, the lone Indian in fray, will seek to prove her mettle in her pet event -- women's recurve.
Dola came from behind in the fourth leg of the World Cup in Dover, England, to defeat Zhang Juan Juan of China in nerve-wrecking match (111-110) and win the gold medal.
She gathered 37 points despite missing the third leg of the meet in Italy and is placed fourth among the finalists.
Accompanied by coach Purnima Mahato, Dola will face tough challenge from archers like Erdyniyeva Natalya (52 points) of Russia, Choi Eun Young (42 points) of Korea and Zhang Juan Juan (40 points) of China in the competition for ultimate supremacy.
In the final, the finalists will fight with each other and all matches will be 12-arrow contests, shot in four rounds of three arrows.
The semifinals line up will be decided on the basis of the points earned by the players. Winners in the semis will move on to fight for the gold, while the losers will play the bronze medal match.
