'Yuvi should take bowling seriously'
Thursday, November 22, 2007 14:06 [IST]

New Delhi: Former Pakistani captain Aamer Sohail today joined the debate over Yuvraj Singh's exclusion from the Indian Test team, saying the middle-order batsman needed to have an edge over other contenders to cement his place in the side.

Despite hitting match winning knocks in the recent one-day series and the Twenty20 World Cup, Yuvraj could not find a place in the playing XI for the first Test against Pakistan, but Sohail said the team management was not at all unjust to the Punjab batsman, who has played only 19 Tests since his debut in 2003.

"It's right that Yuvraj is in a purple patch, but to cement his place in the Test team he should have an edge over the other players like (VVS) Laxman, who have performed and proven themselves," Sohail said.

"The only way he can have an edge over others is by taking his bowling seriously. He has to tell his captain that he was taking his bowling seriosuly to increase his value in the team. Otherwise, he has to wait till the others start failing," he added.
