Bosman does a Yousuf act, ditches ICL for IPL
Wednesday, October 31, 2007 11:47 [IST]

Durban: South Africa's hard-hitting opener followed in Mohammad Yousuf's footsteps and ditched the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL) to join the BCCI recognised Twenty20 tournament.

According to the Afrikaans newspaper Die Volksblad, Bosman has pulled out of the contract with ICL to make himself available for domestic cricket and he may even be selected for the national team. Bosman has also committed himself to the BCCI-backed Indian Premier League (IPL), it added.

Pakistani run-machine Yousuf had earlier withdrawn from his contract with the organisers of the ICL.

Bosman, 30, told the newspaper that he had a serious discussion with the Coach of his provincial team, Corrie van Zyl, about his situation which led him to withdrawing his contract with the ICL.

He said that he had another six years of cricket and he wanted to make it worthwhile for him and his family.

"It was a tough decision. I still have the ICL contract. It's difficult having a contract in front of you. It makes it tough to say no," Bosman told the newspaper.

"I could have delayed my decision and dragged out the process. At the end of the day it s still my decision. I also decided what was in the best interests of my wife Mandisa and our four-year-old daughter, Khanyi," Bosman added.

Bosman made his Twenty20 and ODI debut for the Proteas last season and has already played in 12 ODIs and three Twenty20 matches. Bosman, who is also considering playing County cricket in England as an overseas professional, would join South African Captain, Graeme Smith, and fast bowler, Shaun Pollock, in the IPL.
