'We want to keep winning momentum going' Tuesday, February 13, 2007 07:01 [IST]
Margao: Sri Lanka
captain Mahela Jayawardene today said his team was determined to sign off on a
victorious note in the four-match one-day series against India to keep
the winning momentum going ahead of their campaign in the World Cup.
"We want to keep our winning momentum going. It's a big challenge to play
in India
and we want to go home by clinching the series at least with a 2-1
margin," the middle order batsman said here during a promotional function
of the Sri Lankan Airlines here.
The Lankans scored a thrilling five-run victory over India at Rajkot yesterday
to take a 1-0 lead in the series which has now effectively been reduced to a
best-of-three following the washed out opener at Kolkata on February 8.
Asked about the absence of Sri
Lanka's most successful one-day bowlers
Chaminda Vaas and Muthiah Muralitharan, Jayawardene reiterated that their
non-availability for the short tour had provided chances to some others to
shine.
"They were not fit and we did not want to aggravate the injuries with the
World Cup coming up. There are other bowlers who are equally good and we wanted
to try them out," he said.
"We will be happy if either India
or Sri Lanka
win the World Cup, but we want to win it," he added.
