India's preparations heading in right course
Thursday, February 08, 2007 11:11 [IST]

rahulKolkata: India's World Cup preparations were heading in the right direction and the engagements against West Indies and Sri Lanka would help the team in getting the perfect build-up ahead of the quadrennial event, according to skipper Rahul Dravid.

"I am satisfied and happy with the direction in which the team is heading," Dravid said here today.

The captain said with both the Caribbeans and the neighbouring island nation placed ahead of the hosts in the ICC one day rankings, the two series had provided good opportunity to the Indians to test themselves.

"We had very good practice against the West Indies. They are a very good side. They were very succesful in the ICC Champions Trophy. And, we did well against them.

"If this series (against Sri Lanka) also goes well, then it will be a very good preparation for us," he said.

India defeated the West Indies 3-1 last month, and would play another four-match series against Sri Lanka beginning here tomorrow.

Dravid said that the team was endeavouring to improve constantly in all departments, particularly fielding, keeping the World Cup in mind.

"There is a need to keep improving constantly in all departments - batting, bowling and fielding. We are working hard on fielding, and hopefully the results will show.

"We may not be the best fielding side in the competition, but we can be a good fielding and catching side in the World Cup. We are working hard towards this," he said.
