A Swedish Sheikh rules in Desert Golf Swing
Monday, February 05, 2007 12:57 [IST]

Dubai:Henrik Stenson sure loves the desert. He won in Qatar last year and in Dubai this year.

What's more, the last two seasons have seen him finish all three events of the Desert Swing in the top-10.

In his last eight starts in the desert, he has been in the top-10 seven times and has won two times and finished second on two other occasions.

Surely, no other player can love the region as much as Stenson does.

The Swede, who has made Dubai his home for the last three seasons, feels the place is very special.

"(It is) very special now. As I said yesterday, I was one of the guys going out there with a chance of winning, and to be able to do it, I mean, I'm excited," Stenson said after winning the Dubai Desert Classic yesterday.

"It's unbelievable to win sort of your own tournament. I got so close in Sweden two years ago, lost in a playoff at the Scandinavian Masters.

"And obviously being based down here, this is my second home tournament, so to be able to win that one in front of family and friends and supporters, it's just unbelievable, really happy." It is always a big deal beating wold number one Tiger Woods, and Stenson felt so too.

"It's probably the first tournament I've won that he's been in. I've played with him a few times and I enjoy playing with him," the Swede said.
