Formula 1:Renault expect close fight title race
Thursday, February 01, 2007 11:48 [IST]

London: Renault's Head of Engine Track Operations Denis Chevrier believes 2007 will be one of the closest fought championships in years.

As Renault prepare for a season without double world champion Fernando Alonso, the emphasis now switches to their veteran driver Giancarlo Fisichella and rookie Heikki Kovalainen.

"I think everybody’s expecting a very closely-fought championship with little difference between the teams," revealed Chevrier.

“In this context the slightest little detail will have considerable importance and could play a crucial role in victory or defeat. It’ll also be very important to reach a good understanding with the drivers to give them the best possible package,” he said.

"When the overall level of competition is as high as this, everybody’s contribution matters and anything that can provide a performance gain must be taken into account. The whole team will have to give 100 percent to succeed in 2007," he said.

Both drivers have been testing the new car in Valencia, Spain, although inclement weather conditions have so far hampered all the teams preparations.
