Lara hopes of a big knock before quitting Tests Thursday, February 01, 2007 11:43 [IST]
Vadodara:He might have flopped in his last one-day innings
in India, but West Indies
captain Brian Lara hopes to make up for that with a big knock at the Eden Gardens
in Tests.
Lara was run out while backing up too far at the non-striker's end for three in
the fourth and final one-dayer against India here today, marking his last
one-day appearance on Indian soil.
"It was the first time I have got out in this manner," said Lara
after the match.
The Trinidadian, who holds the world record for Test cricket's highest
individual score of 400 not out, said that it was his wish to play at least one
Test at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata before calling it quits.
"I have not played a Test match at the Eden Gardens.
It's one thing left unfulfilled in my career and I hope I get an opportunity to
come back to India and do it," said Lara who has decided quit the shorter
version of the game after the World Cup at home to prolong his Test career.
Asked if this was his last tour of India, Lara said,"I have not
seen the future tour programme. But the coloured clothing and ODI cricket, I
won't be seeing again."
Of the 43 matches he
has played against India,
15 has been in the subcontinent, where he scored 449 runs averaging 29.83.
Overall, Lara has scored a total of 1145 runs in the ODIs with an average of
31.81 against India.
