New Delhi: India's squash
queen Joshna Chinappa continued her rise, climbing three spots for her
career-best 38th rank in the latest world rankings.
The Chennai girl lost 10-8 9-0 9-2 to 27th ranked Mexican Samantha Teran at the
Harrow Greenwich Open, her first event of the year.
Joshna improved her performance at the Liberty Bell Open where she defeated
47th ranked English girl Georgina Stoker 9-5 9-3 9-7 in the quarter-final
before bowing out to 33rd-placed Italian Manuela Manetta 9-5 9-2 6-9 9-6 in the
last four.
At the EBS Dayton Open, the 20-year-old exhibited her potential defeating
28th-ranked Guyanese Nicollet Fernandes 7-9 9-5 9-2 10-8 in the round of 16 and
then showed her stamina and grit defeating Englishwoman Rebecca Botwright 6-9
9-10 10-8 9-4 9-3 in the quarters.
However, Joshna was outclassed by world number nine Egyptian Omneya Abdel Kawy
9-6 9-0 9-0 in the semi-final.
The rankings are led by Malaysian Nicol David ahead of Australian Natalie
Grinham, who climbed one spot to relegate her sister Rachael to third place. |
