Formula 1: Red Bull reveals new car in Spain Monday, January 29, 2007 06:09 [IST]
London: Red Bull unveiled their new car for
2007 in a rather muted ceremony in Barcelona
on Friday.
The usually effervescing Formula One team dispensed with the razzmatazz,
which is synonymous with the team and opted for the simple and pragmatism of
simply launching their car.
"We want to challenge for podiums, we want to get in amongst the big
boys as often as we can and make a significant step forward," team boss
Christian Horner told reporters at the Circuit de Catalunya.
"Fifth place is obviously a target. To do that, we'd have to beat two
manufacturer teams. But I think we've now got the infrastructure and strength
in depth to achieve and compete for that. Obviously, our ultimate aims go far
beyond that."
The team, seventh last season, have doubled their budget and personnel and
have added Australian driver Mark Webber, who joined from Williams as team-mate
to Briton David Coulthard.
Red Bull have high hopes for the RB3 which is the first designed for the
team by technical guru Adrian
Newey, who joined from McLaren last season.
"Undoubtedly some aspects of RB3 are 'McLarenesque' and are to some
extent a development of the work I was doing when I was there," he said.
"In other areas, there are derivatives of what has been done here at
Red Bull and, of course, there are some completely fresh ideas," he said.
